Men vs. Women styles

When referring to fashion there are many stereotypes for both men and women. However, it is not only the idea of different types of styles for each gender, there are many exceptions that seem to be acceptable to only one or the other. One of the main differences between these two styles is how it is more acceptable for men to dress "lazy" than it is for women. In the pictures below, there are images of a man vs. a woman and how there relaxed outfits are completely different.

In the image of the man, he is wearing a very loose sweatshirt with baggy sweatpants. He obviously does not have to do anything to his hair or face and goes out into public wearing this. This is never second guessed by people in society because it is socially acceptable for a male to wear this when he leaves the house. However, with the woman on the right -- her idea of a comfortable outfit is completely different. Her outfit includes very tight sweatpants with a tank top that is also form-fitting and shows a great deal of skin. This type of outfit is accepted for women, but it would not be if the pants were more loose and the shirt was baggy and less revealing.

There are many opinions and blogs online that express why it is and is not okay for women to wear sweatpants out in public. One of the main websites that I found expressed "15 reasons why girl's should never wear sweatpants in public." The title of it explains everything that was discussed in this. Although the things that were mentioned were brought about in a joking way, they still expressed exact reasons about why women should not do this and how it is not socially acceptable.

Another issue that is happening between men and women when referring to fashion is the use of makeup. It is completely acceptable for a man to walk out of his house in the morning without a drop of makeup on and it would not be questioned. However, when a woman is supposed to be showing the look of "not trying" they still put on some type of makeup to cover their blemishes and look less tired. These two images represent the differences between what pops up in Google when typing in a women's "natural" look compared to a mans. In society, a women's natural look includes a full face of makeup, hiding all of her blemishes and making her seem more pretty and ready to go out for the day.

In a blog that I came across online, it was someone stating why they choose to personally wear makeup each and every day. One of the main reasons that this is the case is because it is discussed that in order to impress people, this is the way that you need to do so. I find this to be extremely interesting because I do not agree that this is the way that women need to be, but I still continue to wake up each morning and put concealer and mascara on, even on days when I don't want to. However, after talking to most men they do not feel uncomfortable leaving the house like this because it is completely natural for them.

There was also another website that contributed information about women who feel completely comfortable in their everyday life without wearing makeup. In the beginning of the blog I found it to be very interesting because it says "makeup is a social norm." This stood out to me the most because it is absolutely insane that it is a social norm for a women to have to put on makeup each day just to impress other people in the world. However, although this women who is confident in not wearing makeup seems to be a good thing, there is also the issue that this being such an out of the ordinary thing, makes it a bigger deal.
