ELLEN Because Why Not!?

Ellen Degeneres is seen as an icon around the world. She is an individual that is seen to be comfortable in her own attire. She knows who she is and what she is comfortable in. It took Ellen a long time to reach comfort level, but when she did she blossomed.

In general Ellen tends to break gender barriers and wears things that seem to be on the more masculine side of things. She dresses for herself, and if society does not like it she does not care. She is a woman that dresses more masculine. In doing this Ellen shows the public that she is comfortable in masculine clothing. This wearing of masculine clothing can be misinterpreted as Ellen showing the world her sexual orientation through her clothing but that is false. The clothes may fit a preconceived stereotype that Ellen does belong to the LGBT community but that's a stereotype. Ellen is one of many women who dress masculinely, she just also happens to be queer.
People tend to gravitate towards those that look like them, because they instantly think that they would have something in common with them. Ellen Degeneres seems to be very comfortable not only with herself but also her sexuality and her attire shows that. She is not afraid to go out in public in a suit, or in something that is traditionally seen as something for a man. Ellen shows the world through her fashion that she is happy with who she is and no one will ruin that happiness.

Being who you are is important, and being comfortable with that is extremely important. Ellen is the depiction of breaking societal expectations of women. She wears masculine clothing, she expresses her sexual orientation, she does not care about the thoughts of others. She has had a lot of time to figure herself out, and she did. She has broken the system. She does not follow societies rules. She follows the rules she set for herself.  Ellen is an individual that takes Simmel's theory and throws it out the window. She sees society and sees a system that has torn her down by forcing her to wear things that is just not meant for her. And once she realized she did not need to conform she broke free.
The surprising thing about Ellen is that after she broke free she was embraced by society. Everyone wanted a piece of her. Was it the fact that she started to be comfortable with herself, and that her dress showed it. Or was is her personality really showed that she did not care for society, so if society can't hurt her why not embrace what she has to offer.

Ellen Degeneres is a role model, because she shows the world that it is okay to be yourself, and dress the way one wishes. So take a plunge and see what happens if you wore something that you wouldn't wear because of society. Show the world your true colors, you just might be surprised.
